Often, people ask me what is The Farmbar? Often, I find that question quite difficult to answer. Perhaps it is because over the last decade since I began the concept, incorporated the name, and rebuilt this website throughout countless iterations and periods of hiding--The Farmbar continues to shape and bend.

To me, The Farmbar is a state of being. A way of doing things as a farmer and a chef. A way of gathering ingredients, inviting colleagues and guests into a thoughtfully planned moment with the spirit of collaboration and goodwill. No two Farmbar happenings are ever the same. The event landscape, the season, the edible bounty available, the 'menu riffs' and the freedom of individuals to push their craft allows for creative nuance to thrive. A culinary liberation, with a heavy nod to classic food preparations, unfailingly delivers a memorable and delicious experience.

Since The Farmbar is not simply about place, or establishment in any form, it will be forever in a state of adaptation. This year, I am focused on growing more food and raising more livestock for future event menus, on launching an event concept in Andrews, SC and completing my cookery book many years in the making. Beyond these few measures of dedicated work--is a great amount of labor, a little bit of risk and the perfect hang of uncertainty.
